Located on the Potomac River, Prince William County, Virginia is the second largest county in Virginia. Prince William County was settled in 1608 by Captain John Smith and named for the third son of King George the II. The area originally encompassed at the time included what would become Arlington & Fairfax County. Rural in its beginnings, the country centered around Manassas for its railroad crossings; suburbanization of the county began in the 1930’s. Historic Occoquan and its waterfront homes were many of the first developments to put Prince William County on the map.
Home to the largest outlet mall on the eastern seaboard, Potomac Mills is the 10th most popular tourist destination in Virginia. Other attractions include the Marine Corps Museum, the Hylton Performing Arts Center and the historic battlefields in Manassas. Prince William County’s history and heritage are rooted in military service and is largely based on the civil war battles fought here and the role the railroads played connecting the north and south.

Interstate 95 runs through Prince William County, allowing residents to connect to the capital beltway, Interstate 66 and I-395 to Washington. Commuters have many options that allow them to live in Prince William County while working in adjoining cities, counties and states.
